We're not there yet — and we'll say so plainly. These are goals, in the order we intend to earn them.
Near term — a voice in every district.
At least one participating voice in all 435 congressional districts, then deeper coverage district by district. Participation comes first; everything else follows from it.
Next — a Legislative Participation Report.
When participation is broad enough, and our methodology supports meaningful reporting, we'll publish the first AmericanVoters Legislative Participation Report — a transparent, aggregate account of how verified participants engaged with the legislation before Congress, built from official legislative sources. Never a poll. Never a claim to speak for the country. A documented record of the people who took part.
Long term — a trusted civic institution.
Our long-term goal is to become a trusted civic institution that helps Americans understand legislation, take part in the legislative process, and see that participation transparently documented — for the benefit of Congress and the nation.
That's also why we ask a little about you. The optional details in your profile are used only in aggregate, never to identify you — they're what lets a participation report describe who took part.
Our hope is simple: that over time, AmericanVoters becomes a genuinely useful public resource — one that helps participating Americans understand Congress, and gives Congress a transparent record of how verified participants engaged with the legislation before them.
